The selected consultant will conduct research and develop strategies to enhance resilience and managed retreat efforts in Warren, Rhode Island. Responsibilities include identifying sustainable, long-term solutions for transportation asset management and formulating cost-effective measures to address negative impacts from sea-level fluctuations and relative elevations.
The consultant will assess the feasibility of upgrading culverts along sections of Market Street and Child Street by expanding the hydraulic capacity of upstream and downstream open channel approaches. Additionally, they will estimate the costs of resurfacing state roadways within the project area using innovative and cost-efficient materials and techniques. A focus on prioritizing resilient, environmentally sustainable solutions through cutting-edge climate research is essential.
Other tasks involve designing environmental restoration solutions for areas affected by sea-level changes and designated for managed retreat, developing an alternatives analysis for strategic investments in transportation infrastructure, collecting consequence data on infrastructure assets, and coordinating public outreach and data collection with the University of Rhode Island research team.
