The software must be delivered as a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), fully hosted and maintained by the vendor or a designated cloud provider, and accessible via a standard web browser without the need for local installation.
Key requirements include robust features for customizable prescription processing workflows, automated inventory management with real-time tracking and reordering, and multi-wholesaler support. The solution should also offer integrated point-of-sale (POS) capability, supporting real-time prescription status updates, signature capture at multiple stations, and barcode scanning for safety and verification. Additional functionalities must include pharmacist review tools with configurable alerts, electronic prescription transfer (including controlled substances), and compliance with drug label accessibility standards such as large print, Braille, QR codes for audible readers, and preferred language support.
Clinical alerts—for issues like morphine equivalents, pregnancy, or lactation—are required, as is thorough documentation and real-time workflow or compliance alerts. The system must facilitate tracking of refill requests and approvals. Integration with a student information system is also necessary to prepopulate student data and enable direct student account charging, ensuring a smooth, end-to-end solution for pharmacy management.
