The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) plans to negotiate and award a non–competitive purchase order to Grove Engineering Inc. for MicroShield Annual Software and Maintenance. The expected contract term includes a one-year base period from June 10, 2026 through June 9, 2027, with the possibility of four additional one-year option periods for extension.
MicroShield is a specialized software program for photon/gamma ray shielding and dose assessment, used by NRC professionals including health physicists, waste managers, design engineers, and radiological engineers. The program is interactive, features input error checking, and integrates tools for graphing, file creation, source inference with decay, exposure projection, nuclide data access, and decay heat calculations. Grove Engineering holds the copyright to MicroShield, and no other sources are authorized to sell maintenance renewals.
This procurement is justified under FAR 6.103–1, which allows sole sourcing when only one provider is reasonably available for support, and will utilize NAICS code 511210.
