Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) is undertaking a project to fully replace its Main Gate Entrance (Building 680), which was originally constructed in 1960 and has exceeded its useful service life. The goal is to demolish the existing entrance and construct a modernized Entrance Portal that will enhance site access, provide a heightened security posture, improve operational efficiency, and support both current and future laboratory missions. The new entrance is also intended to complement the nearby, publicly accessible Science and User Support Center (SUSC).
The selected contractor will be responsible for providing all labor, supervision, materials (except specific Government Furnished Equipment), equipment, and services required for a comprehensive demolition and reconstruction. Work includes demolition, site preparation, foundations, construction, roadway modifications, installation of utilities and tie-ins, integration of security infrastructure, as well as tasks related to sidewalks, paving, lighting, signage, striping, testing, casework, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, landscaping, and final commissioning. Two security booths, procured separately by Brookhaven Science Associates (BSA) as Government Furnished Equipment, must be coordinated, delivered, installed, and anchored by the contractor as part of the scope.
All phases of construction must ensure continuous site security and controlled access to BNL is maintained throughout the project's duration.
