A project is underway to design and construct a large, modular facility at Tobyhanna, PA. The planned structure will feature a clear span of 90 feet by 75 feet, with a minimum interior clearance of 40 feet in height. The design must enable a work floor that sits flush with adjacent ground level, large overhead doors on two sides, and a completely unobstructed interior space to support various operational requirements.
The facility will incorporate both general purpose and mission-specific electrical distribution, as well as comprehensive indoor and exterior lighting, heating, and a ventilation system capable of purging vehicle exhaust. Secondary facility requirements include installation of water, sewer, gas, and electric utilities, drainage systems, pavement, site improvements, and information systems.
The building is to be designed for a minimum lifespan of 40 years, in accordance with Department of Defense Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC 1–200–02), ensuring energy efficiency and optimal performance of the building envelope and integrated systems. Flexibility and modularity are essential in the facility’s layout, in order to accommodate both current and future needs. The project falls under NAICS Code 236220, with bonding capacity requirements between $7 million and $10 million.
