A government authority located in Camden, New Jersey requires a contractor to provide removal services for grit, scum, and screenings from sewage treatment processes. Grit generally includes materials like sand, stone, debris, organics, and occasionally vegetable matter that have settled from raw sewage. Screenings are typically rags and debris removed via mechanical bar screens and strain presses, while scum contains grease, foreign materials, and associated liquids skimmed from sedimentation tanks.
The contractor will be responsible for removing all quantities of grit, scum, and screenings, even amounts exceeding the specified maximum monthly average, upon request. Containers provided must be capable of safe engagement, pick-up, dumping, and disengagement. The authority will collect and deposit the materials, and pick-up services will be conducted on an as-needed basis during the Authority's regular working hours, with any deviations requiring special approval. The contract period is set for one year.
