A government authority in Hawaii is seeking a contractor to provide firebreak maintenance services along ridge roads in the Puku Ka Pele and Na Pali Kona Forest Reserve. The primary objective is to create a masticated fuel break that effectively disrupts the horizontal and vertical continuity of combustible materials, thereby reducing wildfire risk along these critical roadways.
The contractor will perform only the minimum work necessary for safe access and resource protection. Tasks include removing obstructive windfalls and debris, spot-filling ruts and potholes with native materials, light blading to restore drainage, installing temporary drainage features such as water bars or rolling dips, and applying temporary matting as needed. Any spot rock placement will require written approval from the Owner's Representative. The maintenance area spans approximately 6,000 meters (3.7 miles), beginning at the gate off Highway 550 between mile markers 9 and 10, and concluding at the top gate to the Game Management Area.
All inquiries regarding this project must be submitted by December 31, 2025. The contract will be awarded for a one-year period.
