SUMMARY

NCI is seeking continued software support for its HALO-based digital image platform, including optimization of de-identification workflows, support for new file types, and maintenance of the Digital Slide Archive integration. The work supports secure management of image collections that may contain personally identifiable information.

DESCRIPTION

The National Cancer Institute (NCI), within the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is seeking software support for its digital image management and analysis platform. The platform is based on Indica HALO and supports researchers, external collaborators, and NCI staff with tools for collaborative work, security, and image and data management across a range of image types.

A key need involves handling large slide image collections received from external collaborators, including files that may contain personally identifiable information. Following market research in 2023, NCI identified the open-source Digital Slide Archive software, developed by Emory University with NCI funding, as a suitable solution for bulk de-identification within the HALO environment. Emory was previously contracted to develop custom de-identification workflows and integrate the software into NCI's HALO platform.

This requirement is for continued support to optimize the existing workflows, expand functionality to accommodate additional file types, and maintain the ongoing integration of the Digital Slide Archive within the NCI HALO environment.
