This project involves the construction of a dormitory facility at Joint Base Langley–Eustis, Hampton, Virginia, designed to accommodate 144 enlisted personnel. The building will include 12 accessible rooms and be constructed using compacted fill above the 100-year flood plain, reinforced concrete foundations and floor slabs, a structural steel frame at the core, and load-bearing metal studs at the wings. The exterior will feature a brick facade, precast concrete base, selective metal panel walls, and glass storefront systems at the core and entrances.
Key aspects of the project include a roof system with structural steel framing, trusses, and open web joists, finished with standing seam metal roofing and a low slope single-ply membrane on the core. The scope also covers the installation of a long-run outside plant communications and manhole/duct system pathway, integration with existing utility infrastructure, and provision of site capacity to support facility loads. All necessary utilities, site preparation, pavements, site enhancements, communications, and security upgrades, including area lighting, will be part of the work, as well as the remediation of petroleum-contaminated soil found within the construction footprint.
The facility will be designed to withstand seismic and wind loads as required by current building codes and Department of Defense Unified Facilities Criteria 1-200-01. Construction will comply with federal anti-terrorism and force protection standards (UFC 4-010-01), ensuring a secure, resilient structure.
