The selected vendor will provide comprehensive tobacco prevention and cessation strategic planning services. The program aims to address youth and adult tobacco use, offer treatment options, reduce exposure to second-hand smoke, and tackle health disparities linked to tobacco use. Efforts will focus on establishing tobacco-free policies, reducing the social acceptability of tobacco, promoting cessation, supporting users in quitting, and preventing the initiation of tobacco use among residents.
The strategic plan is informed by a statewide assessment of current trends and activities and seeks to define emerging public health priorities. The plan identifies strategies to prevent the initiation of all tobacco product use among youth and young adults, promote quitting among both youth and adults, eliminate second-hand smoke exposure, and advance health equity by addressing disparities related to commercial tobacco products. Specific strategies include reducing youth access to tobacco and electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS), lowering demand for these products, countering tobacco industry influence, and assisting organizations in implementing evidence-based interventions and policies.
